Riley's very first team huddle.
Moves me to tears, really. I can't wait for her to experience the many great benefits of team sports and sports in general. I wasn't prepared to be so emotional that day. We arrived a little early to do some paperwork, find the coach and so forth (she'll get her uniform at her first practice on Monday.) When I saw the players of the game before us do the "good game/high five" walk past each other and then head through the parent-made tunnel, tears came to my eyes. It is so surreal to be on the other side. I remember doing that with my players at the end of our games as I worked hard to instill the attitude of sportsmanship in them. To now have my daughter (and soon my son) be able to take part in that and learn the valuable life lessons that come with playing sports, was very touching. Riley conquered her nerves about playing in her first real game and did a great job. I'm so proud of you Roo! (Yes, my love, after each game you get a snack. :o) At times (well almost always) for my players this was the most exciting part of the game. I can see you're gonna look forward to that, too.)
This afternoon, we joined Josh's family and extended family to celebrate his 1st birthday. This was right after the soccer game which meant no time for naps. I can count on one hand the amount of times we have skipped naps. Not something I like to do and a last resort by all means. Today was just one of those days, but fortunately, the kids were no worse for the wear and we had a fabulous day. Never got a picture of little Josh man, though. Happy Birthday anyways, little man!
