Saturday = Soccerday!
I had to work today and was super bummed that I was going to miss some of Rileys' game, but was grateful I wasn't going to miss most of it. I stayed as long as I possibly could and had to leave in a hurry. I had explained this all to Roo ahead of time. Luckily, the game ended right when I ran over to the sideline to say goodbye (figured at this age, I could get away with that during a game). I was able to scoop her up, congratulate her on a game well played and made it to work only 5 minutes late. The reason why I write all this is because a few minutes before I got to work, my cell rang. It was Riley. She had asked if she could call me. She wanted to make sure I knew that I didn't miss any of her game at all and thanked me for staying as long as I could. Admittingly, my response included me asking her if someone was telling her what to say. I was so touched and moved to tears. I found out later that the phone call and what she said to me was all her. I can brag because she's my daughter and it's my blog so here goes . . . what a wonderfully thoughtful little person you are turning out to be Roo! I love you!!!
When we got home Gavin wasn't there as he picked up an afternoon shift. So, I promptly shouted out to the kids, "HEY! WE DON'T HAVE TO BE QUIET! DADDY'S NOT HERE AND DADDY'S NOT SLEEPING!!!" Here is how they responded (within minutes) . . .
. . . with a drum show of course! Those tinker toy sticks double as drum sticks in a pinch. Jack played so hard he split one or two. Reminded me of "Animal" from the "Muppets." Oh, it was nice to let them be kids.
